Eriez launches X8-SF metal detector for food processing inspection

The X8-SF uses simultaneous frequency technology to reduce false rejects caused by product effect.

Eriez has introduced the X8-SF Simultaneous Frequency Metal Detector, expanding its PrecisionGuard X8 inspection platform with technology designed for demanding food processing applications.

The X8-SF uses simultaneous frequency technology to transmit and receive multiple frequencies at the same time. According to Eriez, this approach helps compensate for variations in product conductivity and composition, commonly known as “product effect,” which can reduce the effectiveness of conventional metal detectors.

The company said the broader frequency spectrum improves inspection stability across food products such as fresh meat, poultry, and dairy. The system is designed to increase sensitivity to metal contaminants while reducing false rejects that can contribute to unnecessary product waste.

“Product effect has long challenged processors trying to balance sensitivity with stability,” said Emmett Keim, Eriez Global Product Manager, Inspection Systems. “The X8-SF changes that equation by maintaining consistent detection performance, even when product composition or temperature varies.”

The X8-SF includes the same hygienic design, touchscreen interface, and integrated data capture capabilities found across the X8 product line. Each system also includes Eriez’ Quality Retail Compliance Kit, which provides automated performance verification, audit-ready reporting, and documented inspection records to support retail and regulatory compliance requirements.

Eriez will display the X8-SF at interpack 2026 from May 7-13 in Hall 12, booth C05, where the company plans to conduct live demonstrations of the inspection system.
