Flexicon has introduced a flexible screw conveyor with a low-profile trough hopper designed to receive bulk materials from multiple discharge points, including feeders, grinders, blenders, bulk bag dischargers, and other processing equipment with wide-style outlets.

The conveyor features a 108-inch (275-cm) trough hopper with a 36-inch (92-cm) profile, allowing it to fit beneath the discharge point of many process vessels. A U-shaped channel in the hopper exposes the flexible screw along the entire vessel length, enabling material entering at any location to feed directly into the conveyor. A stainless-steel safety grate helps protect operators while preventing oversized material from entering the system.

Optional level sensors can be installed through ports in the hopper walls to monitor material levels in real time. The sensors can signal conditions such as hopper overflow or conveyor starvation to support continuous operation.

According to Flexicon, the conveyor's flexible screw is the only moving component that contacts the material. The screw is available in multiple configurations to convey both free-flowing and difficult bulk materials, including products that pack, cake, or smear, while maintaining blend integrity. As the screw rotates, it self-centers within the tube to provide clearance between the screw and tube wall, helping reduce material degradation during conveying.

Material is discharged below the drive point, preventing contact with bearings and seals. Quick-disconnect clamps near the drive assembly and a cleanout cap at the opposite end of the conveyor allow the flexible screw to be removed for cleaning during product changeovers.
