Romaco introduces FLEXIJET nozzle for fluid bed granulation

FLEXIJET is designed for short fluid bed granulation batches that require frequent nozzle removal, cleaning and product changes.

Romaco has introduced the FLEXIJET spray nozzle for fluid bed granulation, targeting applications that require short processing times, frequent cleaning and product changes.

The new nozzle is designed to simplify handling and maintenance compared with the company’s ROTOJET technology. Users can remove the FLEXIJET by loosening one screw and dismantle it into 10 individual components for cleaning.

The nozzle’s spray gap uses a flexible plastic membrane that seals the circular opening from above. Incoming liquid pressure lifts the membrane during spraying, while a return of the spray liquid draws it closed when processing stops.

According to Romaco, this design helps maintain liquid distribution at low spray rates and prevents the spray gap from drying out. It also limits deposits that could obstruct the nozzle when production resumes.

FLEXIJET components and wear parts can be reordered and replaced by users. This reduces the specialist knowledge required for routine nozzle maintenance compared with the ROTOJET, which uses more than 20 precision-manufactured components with tightly controlled manufacturing tolerances.

Romaco continues to recommend the ROTOJET for longer fluid bed coating applications, particularly processes involving unstable suspensions and pharmaceutical coating of fine starter particles. These processes can run for more than 20 hours and require precise control to limit sedimentation and nozzle blockage.

The ROTOJET uses a rotating nozzle head to maintain relative movement within the spray gap. This movement continuously mixes the spray liquid and helps reduce deposits during extended coating processes.

FLEXIJET and ROTOJET have compatible mounting dimensions and identical spray geometry. Users can therefore switch between the two nozzle technologies without modifying the machine or changing established process parameters.

Both nozzles are available for Romaco’s VENTILUS fluid bed processors, covering laboratory, pilot and full-scale production. FLEXIJET is also recommended for hot melt coating applications, where processing times are relatively short.

Romaco said the patented FLEXIJET technology is already being used by pharmaceutical manufacturers in Germany and France.

The company will present its processing portfolio, including the VENTILUS Lab fluid bed processor, at POWTECH TECHNOPHARM 2026, scheduled for Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 in Nuremberg, Germany.
