Volkmann vDryer removes moisture from metal 3D printing powders
The vDryer vacuum drying module from Volkmann USA conditions metal 3D printing powders before they enter additive manufacturing equipment.
Designed as an optional module for the company’s vLoader 250 powder conveyor, the vDryer removes absorbed moisture without heat. The inline system can restore powders to a uniform, defined moisture level before delivery to one or more 3D printers.
The system uses Volkmann’s proprietary electric vacuum pump technology to gently extract moisture from temperature-sensitive powders. The company says the process can improve powder flowability while reducing moisture-related issues such as agglomeration, caking and particle adherence.
The vDryer is designed to integrate with Volkmann’s automated, closed-loop powder handling systems. It also can operate as a standalone powder drying system for applications requiring dedicated moisture control.
The module is compatible with additive manufacturing equipment from virtually any printer manufacturer. Supported materials include stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, nickel-chromium alloys, copper, cobalt, tungsten, silver, iron and alumina.
