octogon weigh modules support accurate tank, silo and hopper weighing
Austrian sensor manufacturer octogon GmbH offers weigh modules for mounting load cells beneath tanks, silos and hoppers, with capacities up to 100,000 kilograms (approximately 220,000 pounds) per module.
The modules introduce vessel loads into load cells in a defined direction while absorbing side forces and preventing vessels from tipping or lifting. Available materials include galvanized steel and AISI 304 stainless steel.
The range accommodates bending beam, shear beam, compression and double-ended shear beam load cells. Each module is designed for a specific load cell series. CAD models are available to help engineers evaluate installations before assembly.
Features include self-centering feet that compensate for uneven supporting surfaces and lateral restraints that absorb forces from thermal expansion, wind and agitators. Many models offer height adjustment, and several sizes are certified to EN 1090.
For round tanks and silos, octogon recommends three support modules. The arrangement is statically determinate, allowing the load to be shared without shimming. Rectangular frames can use four modules, but installers must check load distribution during installation.
According to octogon, rigid connections often cause weighing errors by allowing forces to bypass the load cell and module. Bolted pipes, stiff hoses and welded braces can create these unwanted load paths.
The company recommends flexible, horizontal pipe connections and routing cables and hoses in loops to reduce the transfer of forces into the weighing system.
