Product Spotlight: Level measurement

A closer look at some of the newest level measurement products in the marketplace.

DJ LEVEL DETECTORS

DJ Level Detectors have been successful as plugged chute detectors for most types of conveying. They are also ideal for high, mid or low point level detection providing dependable operation in dusty environments as well as on vessels, storage bins or hoppers equipped with vibrators. For applications such as bulk solids flakes, powders, pellets and heavy granular materials, DJ Level Detectors easily obtain accurate level measurements. These durable level detectors are virtually wear-free. They contain no moving parts, gaskets or seals and rely on mechanical oscillations to determine if the probe is covered or uncovered. The units are factory calibrated with no field calibration required and approved for Class I, Group C & D; Class II, Groups E, F & G; and Class III Services.

LEVEL TRANSMITTERS

GF Piping Systems recently expanded its automation product line with two new level transmitters: the model 2290 unguided wave radar transmitter and the model 2291 guided radar transmitter. These transmitters incorporate advanced radar sensing technology designed for high accuracy tank level measurement in a wide range of chemical processing and water treatment applications. The model 2290 features non-contact radar technology in a compact, economical unit.  Available in a variety of different materials to resist even the most corrosive environments, the 2290’s tank mapping function makes it easy to block out objects like internal pipes, welding seams, stirrers or heating elements. The model 2291 is designed for continuous level measuring of conductive or non-conductive liquids, pulps or solids, and maintains consistent measurement even under extremely tough conditions like turbulent process vessels. Its radar signal is sent down the probe assembly thereby eliminating interferences caused by low dielectric liquids, heavy fumes, conductive foams or internal tank obstructions.

LIQUIPHANT POINT LEVEL INSTRUMENTS

Endress+Hauser recently released its Liquiphant FTL51B and FTL41 vibrating fork (vibronic) level instruments. The FTL51B features Industry 4.0 and IIoT capabilities, including access via wireless Bluetooth technology, automatic proof tests and verification, and easy commissioning via a mobile device. In addition, operational clarity is provided by a high-visibility LED. The Liquiphant FTL51B can be used in storage tanks, containers and pipes for point level detection of all types of liquids. The instrument’s vibronic sensor is not affected by changing media properties, flow, turbulence, gas bubbles, foam, vibration or build-up. The instrument works in process temperatures of -58 to 302°F (-50 to 150°C) and pressures up to 1450 psi (100 bar). It can be used in SIL2 and SIL3 hazardous locations and has built-in automatic maintenance and verification functions. The economical, general-purpose FTL41 is similar to the FTL51B, but works at lower pressures, up to 580 psi (40 bar), and with a narrower temperature range of -40 to 302 °F (-40 to 150 °C).

LEVEL SWITCHES

A new range of level switches which ensure easy and universal point level detection, regardless of the type of medium being measured, has recently been introduced by Baumer. The CleverLevel PL20 level switches utilize frequency sweep technology which ensures accuracy and consistency regardless of the type of process medium being measured. The switches provide reliable limit detection without the need for parameterization to a specific medium, so regardless of whether the process medium is liquid, paste-like, sticky or granular, the CleverLevel PL20 recognizes them reliably and securely. As a result, they are ideal for industrial and hygienic applications as they also distinguish foam and liquid as well as detecting separating layers. Their ability to adaptively adjust to different process mediums saves set-up time, helps to maintain high levels of process safety and provides an effective solution for process media detection in pipes, reliable overfill protection of tanks and general leakage detection. They are an ideal alternative to vibrating forks, as even adherence of pasty materials does not affect their performance. With adhesive materials they continue to automatically adjust the switching level without the need for parameterization.
