In the midst of a hot summer it’s fitting that our July cover series focuses on staying cool – keeping process equipment and industrial systems properly cooled, that is. SPX Cooling Technologies starts the Heating & Cooling cover series with new advancements in modular designs for cooling towers that provide up to 50 percent more cooling capacity compared to other factory-assembled, single-cell cooling towers. The recent developments in factory-assembled cooling tower technology are increasing the applications for so-called “package” towers that support HVAC and industrial processes.

SKF Technical Press Day

In June, I attended SKF USA‘s Technical Press Day in Philadelphia where topics such as bearings, IIoT, gearboxes, the emerging workforce – aka millennials – and other services and equipment for rotating equipment were discussed. I learned a lot about bearings in just one day, like there are more than 40 different bearing types, and most bearings in gearboxes are oil-lubricated rather than grease-lubricated.

While most everyone knows SKF makes bearings and seals, they do so much more and are committed to a digital business approach as we move ahead in a highly connected world. It was interesting to hear firsthand from application engineers about the problems they solve daily to keep production rolling along.

While in Philly, I stopped by the Liberty Bell, walked through a Revolutionary War cemetery and admired Independence Hall. We have come a long way in 241 years and have a lot to celebrate this July!
