Chicken, turkey and pork producer Perdue Foods is recalling approximately 720 pounds of raw, fresh chicken products because of concerns that they may have been subject to a deviation in temperature during production.

Chicken, turkey and pork producer Perdue Foods is recalling approximately 720 pounds of raw, fresh chicken products because of concerns that they may have been subject to a deviation in temperature during production.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said on Saturday that the products subject to the recall include 80-lb. cardboard boxes which contain approximately 28 2.5-lb. ice-packed, sealed packages of chickens with giblets and necks, labeled as "COOKIN' GOOD WHOLE YOUNG CHICKENS." The establishment number "P-764" can be found on the box.

These products were produced on September 3, 2014 and were shipped to a New York distributor for sale to consumers and for foodservice use in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

This is a Class II recall, involving a remote probability of adverse health consequences from use of the product. There have been no reports to Perdue Foods or the FSIS of adverse reactions due to consumption of the chicken.

Perdue Foods discovered the problem when a plant worker checking whole bird temperatures noticed variations. Further investigation revealed that an employee had mistakenly turned the wrong water valve, using potable water instead of chilled water in the system's chiller, the FSIS said.

The company notified the FSIS of the incident. Nine cases were shipped but the rest of the batch in the firm's warehouse was destroyed.
