Russian gas company Gazprom has partnered with NIPIgaz on the design and construction of a new gas processingplant near the town of Svobodny in the Amur Region, eastern Russia.
Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk, part of Gazprom Group, will work with NIPIgazpererabotka, part of gas processing and petrochemicals company SIBUR Group, to design the Amur Gas Processing Plant, coordinate equipment and material supplies, and manage construction of the facility.
Gazprom said last week that the Amur plant will become the biggest gas processing operation in Russia and one of the biggest ones in the world, with a capacity to process up to 49 billion cubic meters of gas a year. The plant will also incorporate the world’s largest helium production facility.
As well as helium, the facility will produce methane, ethane, propane, butane and pentane-hexane fraction.
NIPIgaz has extensive experience in designing, engineering and managing the construction of oil refining and petrochemical plants. Acting as a contractor for the joint project, the company will prepare working documentation, supply equipment and materials, perform construction and installation activities, and transfer the plant to Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk when it is ready to start operating.
The Power of Siberia gas pipeline will deliver multicomponent gas to the plant from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers being built by Gazprom.
The two partners plan to start pre-developing the construction site this year. Phased commissioning of the plant’s process trains will be brought into step with the development of production capacities in Yakutia and the Irkutsk Region, Gazprom said.
